How to Qualify Your Leads With a Quiz

I don’t know about you, but I spend a loooot of time on the phone with sales prospects.
What if instead of fielding every inquiry for your business, you could make sure that the people who get in contact with you are a good fit before you get on the phone?
Well, m’friends, that’s what this tech tutorial is all about. I’ve recently had the pleasure of discovering an app called Interact — it makes quiz building super easy.
Interact also integrates with all of the major email marketing softwares, and when combined you can automatically send follow-up emails to your prospects based on their quiz results (or redirect them elsewhere if they're not a good fit).
THE TOOLS YOU NEED:
I talk with a lot of people who know they need a website but don't know what platform they should use. Usually they’re checking out a platform like Squarespace, Shopify, or Wordpress because they ran into some sweet marketing material that sold them on that particular platform.
Quick tip: at the end of the day, what you use to build your website doesn’t matter. It’s a marketing tool for your business, so you should simply use whichever software helps you reach your goals.
With that said, website needs do vary from business to business. A blog website usually needs different features than an online shop for a brick and mortar store.
When I’m on the phone with a future client, I have a series of questions that I’ll ask to help them find the right platform for their business. They tend to be the same questions every time, so why not make it an online quiz to speed up the process?
Step 1: Start at the End of Your Quiz AND WORK BACKWARDS

Outline Your Questions
Now that I know where people will end up, I can map out the questions that will help suss out which platform is best for them. I've been asking these questions for a while now, and they are...
- What is it that you do?
- Why do you want a website?
- What do you want your website to do for you?
- Will your website need custom functionality?
- Who will take care of your website post-launch?
- What's your budget?
That's it, honestly -- it's pretty easy to pick out the best platform by answering those questions.
Quick tip: when you're creating a quiz, make sure that the questions you ask have a point. A good length for how long it takes for someone to take a quiz from start-to-finish is about 2 minutes, which usually means around 5 - 7 questions total.
Step 2: Build Out the Quiz in Interact
Creating a New Quiz
If you haven't yet, make sure to sign up for a free Interact trial. Once you're at the main dashboard, hit the big ol' Create New Quiz button.
TO TEMPLATE, OR NOT TO TEMPLATE?
In this case, we're going to hit Create From Scratch, but when you're creating your first couple of quizzes Interact has some sick templates to get you up and running.
SHOW SOME PERSONALITY
Next choose Personality for the type of quiz we're making.
ADD YOUR STYLE
Using Interact's style menu, it's really easy to pick out your brand colors and upload a photo. From there you can just double click on any of the fields to update the title and description of your quiz.
ADD YOUR RESULTS
Now it's time to add in the results our quiz-takers will see, as well as give them some options to take based on their results.
Since I design Squarespace websites, of course I want to give them an option to get in contact with me! However, if it sounds like they really need a different platform, I give them a link to the awesome experts at Sixty. I might not be the right designer for them, but now my quiz takers know what platform they need and have a way to get in contact with a designer that specializes in their platform!
ADD YOUR QUESTIONS
If we've followed all of the steps up until now, the rest should be easy. All we need to do is fill in our questions, and then Edit Result Correlations -- which just means choosing which answers give a +1 to a specific quiz result. At the end of the quiz, all of those +1's are tallied up and the quiz taker gets the result that matches most closely.
The final step in building out your quiz is to connect your favorite email service provider. The instructions are a little different for each one, but thankfully Interact has really clear walkthroughs for all of their native integrations.
STEP 3: ADD THE QUIZ TO YOUR WEBSITE
Now it's time to set this live! To do that, hit the Publish button in the top bar. From there, you'll be asked how you'd like to embed your quiz with instructions for each method.

I’m using this quiz specifically to qualify website prospects, but you could also create a more general quiz on your “Work With Me / Contact Us” page that helps people get an idea of the right service for them.
